Make your bets! The coronation of King Charles III, which takes place on May 6 at Westminster Abbey, promises to be another one of those turbulent moments involving the British royal family… that we love. That’s because Prince Harry must go to the ceremony alone. At least that’s what Paul Burrell, a former butler of Lady Di who works as a commentator for the English court in the British press, thinks.
To Closer magazine, Burrell pointed out that it would be extremely uncomfortable if Harry and Meghan Markle attend the event, especially the Duchess of Sussex. For these and other reasons, he bets that the king’s youngest son can go alone, to avoid further strain on his relationship with his father.
“Are they prepared to deal with the consequences? I don’t think Meghan is brave or strong enough to be there – she would have to look a family in the eye that she pushed under the bus. But I think Harry can come alone,” he said.
In recent months, Meghan and Harry have been in the global spotlight for harsh criticism of the royal family in the Netflix documentary series “Harry & Meghan” and in the autobiography written by the prince, “Spare”, released in January this year. The couple has not yet confirmed if they are going or who is going, but their official spokesperson declared to the international press that “the Duke recently received the correspondenceby email from Her Majesty’s office regarding the coronation.”
“An immediate decision on the presence of the Duke and Duchess will not be released by us at this time,” the spokesperson concluded.
Some members of the British monarchy told The Times in December last year that Harry and Meghan had demanded an immediate meeting with senior members of the royal family to clarify and hear an apology for their treatment of the couple in recent years, but nothing was made.
As early as February this year, Buckingham Palace sources told the Daily Mail that the request for the meeting had generated a “toxic impasse” and that there was still a lot of ill will from the Windsors towards the couple.
