The international #TikTokShortFilm competition is back for the second edition from March 6th to March 29th

TikTok, official partner of the Festival de Cannes, celebrates once again the love of the platform and its community for cinema and culture, and launches the second edition of #TikTokShortFilm, a competition of short films in vertical format.

From the 6th to the 29th of March, emerging artists and enthusiasts are invited to participate in the global competition that will take place on TikTok, by creating an original video of more than one minute.

At the end of the #TikTokShortFilm competition, a jury of professionals will be responsible for choosing three winners in the categories of “Gran Gagnant”, “Best Script” and “Best Editing” who will be invited by TikTok to receive their award at the 76th edition of the Festival de Cannes.

#TikTokShortFilm boosts new vocations for cinema

TikTok, a platform that stands out for its short video format, has a community of more than a billion users worldwide – including more than 150 million in Europe – who share their creations every day. The biggest names in cinema, such as Anthony Hopkins , Jessica Chastain , Pierre Niney , Jane Fonda or Baz Luhrmann, now meet anonymous creators with great creative potential.

Content creators use TikTok to share their desire to tell unique stories and moments or even to raise awareness of certain causes in an authentic way.

To support community creativity, TikTok is now launching the second edition of the #TikTokShortFilm contest and invites the entire community to create a vertical video, from March 6th to March 29th. After registering the application, using the available form, and sharing the video with the hashtag #TikTokShortFilm on the personal TikTok account, the films are submitted to the users’ vote.

The 40 most popular videos with the public (number of views and engagement rate) will be evaluated by a professional jury that will select three winners in the categories of “Gran Gagnant”, “Best Script” and “Best Editing”.

The creators of the selected content will be invited by TikTok to be present at the Cannes Film Festival on May 23, 2023 to present their videos and receive the prize. The winner of the “Gran Gagnant” category will receive a prize of 10 thousand euros, and the winners of “Best Script” and “Best Editing” five thousand euros, destined to support a new project in the area.

TikTok supports the film industry and encourages the younger generation to develop creativity

First launched in 2022, the #TikTokShortFilm contest gave experienced and aspiring creators and filmmakers a unique opportunity to share their creativity in a new format. The hashtag #TikTokShortFilm has more than 9.5 billion views on the platform.

The first issue highlighted four creators, with very different styles, who mirror the richness of the TikTok community. Among them, the French creator Claudia Cochet, who won the “Best Script” award with the activist film “Princesse Moderne”, denouncing violence against women.

“Winning the “Best Script” award gave me not only confidence as a writer-director, but also credibility in the film industry. I was able to direct and write for large groups on TikTok, and I recently co-wrote two feature films thanks to the visibility the award gave me, one of which is due to begin shooting in April. Since then, I have also directed the pilot episode of a multiplatform series that I now intend to produce and I have been invited to several short film festivals to talk about my experience as a director on platforms such as TikTok” explains Claudia Cochet, winner of the “Best Script” #TikTokShortFilm 2022.

TikTok is also involved with cultural institutions, schools and associations to help young people in their orientation and encourage them to believe in their creative potential.

The platform invites everyone to come together to celebrate and experience the creativity and magic of cinema at the Cannes Film Festival 2023, with the second edition of the #TikTokShortFilm contest, and is looking forward to discovering the community’s creative works.
