League of Legends Season 13 is here as Riot Games’ MOBA has made some considerable changes to its most recent 13.1 patch notes. Interestingly, however, the gameplay itself hasn’t been the main topic of discussion since the new season began, as Riot issued a statement regarding the less-than-desirable response from players to this year’s League of Legends cinematic, saying that he plans to do better in the future.
At the start of every year, Riot Games releases a cinematic showcasing the new season of League of Legends, and these are usually action-packed showcases featuring some of the many MOBA champions. This year, however, that was not the case.
The League of Legends season 2023 cinematic has been ridiculed by the community, mainly because it lacks the two things most want to see mentioned above: action and champions. Instead, the cinematic focus is on a camera flying through some scenery, and that’s about it. There was also apparently very little indication that new League of Legends champions would be coming this year, with Riot saying a monster is on the way.
“This year, there were some unprecedented circumstances that caused us to choose an alternate approach to the 2023 season video,” Riot says in a Twitter thread in response to player feedback. “However, we believed that he could still embody the vast universe and competitive spirit of League as it celebrated the start of a new season.
“But we’ve heard your feedback, and we want to acknowledge that Brink of Infinity missed the mark of the action-packed, champion-led trailer I was hoping for and has led to further speculation about our investment in LoL.
“Honestly, we should have been more forthcoming, which might have helped with some of that sentiment and speculation. We think the League has a bright future and we’re investing in that, but we can do a better job of sharing those plans with you.”
Riot then adds that it’s “committed to bringing you more details on what that investment looks like in the days to come,” but has yet to specify exactly what this means for the community. You can find Riot Games’ full statement at Twitter.
It’s unclear exactly what “unprecedented circumstances” is referring to in Riot’s letter to players, but many have referred to a statement from Riot CEO Nicolo Laurent, who said at the time: “I have just accepted the budget of 2023, and it is the biggest of all». hour. This all comes in the midst of League of Legends ranking changes that basically halve the season and change skin rewards, with plenty of new League of Legends skins on the way as well.
