A medical teacher shot a student in class for not giving the “correct” answer in Bangladesh

Bangladesh Police this Tuesday reported the arrest of a medical school professor who shot and injured a student with a gun while giving a class at a university in Dhaka.

Raihan Uddin, a professor in the department of community medicine at the Shaheed M Mansoor Ali Faculty of Medicine, was arrested on Monday night based on a complaint by the father of the injured student, Superintendent of Police Arifur Rahman told EFE.

The third year student was admitted to the hospital with a wound on his right thigh. University director Amirul Hussain told EFE that his condition was stable.

According to Rehman, there was an argument between the teacher and the student a few days ago. “Yesterday, the student did not respond properly in the class and (the teacher) shot the student with the gun he had with him. There were eight to ten students present in the class at that time,” he said.

Police responded to the incident after students started an agitation on the university campus.

“We recovered the weapons used by him and found that they were not licensed. The professor appeared to us to be a sociopath with a strong affinity for firearms. “The cover photo on his phone was of a gun and his Facebook account was also full of videos of firearms,” ​​he said.

Based on clues from his phone and social media accounts, officers interrogated the professor, who admitted to possessing more weapons, the police officer said.

“According to the information received from him, we recovered one more gun, 81 bullets and eight Burmese knives from his office. “We later arrested him after the victim’s father lodged a complaint against him.”

The university director told EFE that the professor had been teaching community medicine at the faculty for a year.

“We also observed abnormal behavior in the last three months…we have now initiated the process of departmental action against them,” he said.
